How To Kick Start Your Morning.
I like to sit down. Or more specifically, lie down with my eyes closed.
Ok fine, I like to sleep.
Sleep is my favourite thing in the world.
But the problem is, like most of the fun things in this world, too much sleep makes you feel groggy, grumpy and flat - the worst things to feel when you've got to get up and do adult things.
Those of you who can spring out of bed, I hate you. I'm notoriously terrible at regulating my sleep and my night owl DJ boyfriend makes it almost impossible to be asleep before 3am. Add in the fact that I'm freelance and you've got one oversleeper right here. Lately, after a good run of early starts, I've slipped into the worst sleep routine - asleep at 3am, awake at 11am. I feel embarrassed to even tell you. It's like I've regressed back to my uni days only now I have better eyebrows and a healthier liver.
So I decided it was time to kick my ass into shape.
The key factors which stop me from ignoring real life and living in my duvet are the constant sunshine and the beach being 50m from my front door. (I'm sorry to brag, fellow Brits. Who knew we could live our lives this way.)
Both of those blessings make it so much easier to resist the snooze button and get the day started. I pull on random floor clothes, drag my feet to the beach, curse at life and promise myself a nap by lunchtime. That empty promise seems to really seal the deal.
After a brisk walk and a little paddle, I feel energised and full of ideas.
Who knew that moving a bit would totally change your energy levels and, dare I say it, life?
Gone are the days of migrating from bed, to desk, to sofa, to kitchen (mostly in my pj's) and being miserable at my laptop all day. And with a bit of healthy eating and water thrown in, I'm like a new person.
There's even energy for a totally impromptu, not at all planned photoshoot too...
What's your tried and tested morning routine?
